9th “Kostas Mountakis” Festival: Tribute to Katsamades

On Wednesday August 9, 2023, in Alpha Mylopotamou, birthplace of the pioneers of Cretan music, Kostas Mountakis, Stelios Moshakis or Stoumbouris, Nikos Kalligiannis or Mastoras, Dimitris Kaffatou or Petraki and Yiannis Dandolos, the “Kostas Mountakis” Cultural Association is organizing an evening dedicated to music family of Katsamades, George, Sifi and Vassilis, in collaboration with the Pancretian Association of Cretan Music Artists.

The event is part of the program of the “Kostas Mountakis” Cretan Music Festival, which has been held since 2012 with the support of the residents of Alfa, local businesses, with the co-organization of the Region of Crete and the Municipality of Mylopotamos, with the ambition to promote the musical tradition of of Crete, honoring the artists who shaped the Cretan musical idiom and supporting contemporary creators.

Songs of the Katsamades will be heard by Michalis ALEFANTINO, Kostas KAKOUDAKI, Dimitris VAKAKIS, Kostas and George SARIDAKIS, Michalis PETSAKI, George ALEFANTINO and Manolis DRIMHI. The representative of the last generation of the Katsamas, Manolis KATSAMAS, will also participate. The evening will be prefaced by Giorgos VITOROS. The narrator will be archaeologist and writer Irini GAVRILAKI.
